Cookie Policy
What we store in your browser, and how to stop it.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. It lets the site remember things between pages and visits. Other tools such as local storage work in a similar way, and this policy covers those too.
What this site actually uses
Analytics
We use Burst Statistics, a privacy focused analytics plugin that runs on our own server. Your visit data is not sent to Google or any other advertising company.
Burst sets one cookie:
| Cookie | Purpose | Type |
|---|---|---|
burst_uid |
Tells repeat visits apart from new ones, so our page counts are not inflated | First party analytics |
It records which pages are read and roughly where visitors come from. It does not follow you to other websites and it does not build an advertising profile.
Essential cookies
WordPress sets cookies only for people who log in to manage the site. If you are just reading, no login cookie is set for you.
What we do not use
- No advertising cookies
- No cross site tracking
- No Google Analytics
- No social media pixels
- Nothing at all on our mental health resources page
The mental health resources page carries no tracking, no advertising and no affiliate links, and it never will. If you are in distress, you should be able to find a phone number without being measured.
Things loaded from other companies
We load our typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google when a page loads. We do not control what Google logs at that moment.
If we embed a video from TikTok or YouTube on a page, that player may set its own cookies once it loads. Those are governed by their own policies, not ours.
How to control cookies
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking them will not stop you reading anything here.
Useful links: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge.
Private or incognito mode also clears cookies when you close the window.
Do Not Track
There is still no agreed standard for how websites should respond to the browser Do Not Track signal, so we do not currently act on it. We keep our tracking to the single analytics cookie described above instead.
Changes
If we change what we use, we will update this page and the date below.
