Accessibility Statement

How this site works for everyone, and where it still falls short.

What we are aiming for

This site should work for everyone, including people using a screen reader, a keyboard only, or a magnifier. We build against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at level AA.

People arrive at these pages during hard moments. Anything that makes the site harder to use is a real problem, not a cosmetic one.

What we have done

  • A skip link so keyboard users can jump straight to the content
  • One H1 per page and headings in proper order, so a screen reader can navigate
  • Visible focus outlines on every link, button and form field
  • Text that meets AA contrast in both light and dark themes
  • Body text at 18 pixels with generous line spacing, which reflows cleanly when you zoom
  • Wide tables scroll inside their own box, so the page never scrolls sideways
  • Labels on every form field, and breadcrumbs and navigation marked as landmarks
  • Animation reduced automatically if your system asks for less motion
  • The mobile menu opens and closes with a keyboard and responds to the Escape key
  • No content locked behind hover, and no time limits anywhere

Themes

The site follows your system setting for light or dark. Both were designed separately rather than one being a flipped copy of the other, so contrast holds either way.

What we know is not perfect

Being honest here is more useful than claiming full compliance.

  • Videos embedded from TikTok and YouTube use those platforms’ own players. We do not control their captions or their keyboard behaviour.
  • We have not had an independent audit. Our testing is our own.
  • Some outside links go to sites with their own accessibility problems.
  • We have no images yet. When we add them, every one will carry alt text, and decorative images will be hidden from screen readers.
